Renewing your South Carolina real estate license is a compliance task, not a stress event. The process is straightforward when you do it in order: confirm your expiration date, confirm your requirements, complete the correct CE hours, then renew through LLR.
You can find your expiration date on your South Carolina Real Estate Commission pocket card. If you do not have it handy, you can look up your license online through LLR in a few simple steps.
The South Carolina Real Estate Commission uses CE Broker to track continuing education. An account has already been created for every real estate licensee. Log in to CE Broker, create your username and password, and view your transcript to see what has been reported.
License renewal is completed through the South Carolina LLR online renewal portal. Completing CE and renewing your license are separate steps, so make sure your CE is finished (and showing in CE Broker) before you submit your renewal and pay the renewal fee.
CE requirements depend on license type. Always verify your exact requirements inside CE Broker and your LLR account.
Active Associate or Broker
10 total hours per renewal cycle
Typically includes the mandatory core course (4 hrs) plus electives (6 hrs) to reach the total
Active Broker-in-Charge
10 total hours per renewal cycle
Includes the mandatory core course (4 hrs) plus BIC-focused education (4 hrs) and any remaining elective hours (2 hrs) as required
Renewal Timing
Many licensees renew on a biennial cycle, and many licenses expire June 30 of the renewal year. Do not guess. Confirm your individual expiration date in LLR and your specific requirements in CE Broker.
If you miss the renewal deadline tied to your license expiration, your license becomes lapsed and you cannot legally practice while lapsed. South Carolina has reinstatement rules and timelines, but reinstatement still requires meeting Commission requirements. If you are close to a deadline, verify your status in LLR and CE Broker immediately.
Hours not showing in CE Broker because the provider has not reported yet, or the credit was reported under the wrong license number
Taking courses that are not approved for South Carolina CE or not approved for your license type
Waiting until late in the cycle and discovering you are missing the mandatory core requirement
Assuming your renewal year matches someone else’s instead of confirming your own expiration date
If you are a REALTOR member, you may also have separate national education requirements. These are membership requirements, not South Carolina license renewal requirements, and they have their own deadlines.
Code of Ethics
2.5 hours every 3 years
